“Junkyard: Gay Bordello Stories” is a new series of gay, erotic short stories debuting on Monday, August 22, 2011. Each short story of 10,000 words or less will feature a different client and prostitute engaged in the exploration of a specific sex toy, kink, or situational fantasy at the exclusive (and fictional—sorry, guys) Junkyard bordello.

The Junkyard stories will be available in PDF, MOBI, PDB, HTM, and EPUB formats, modestly priced at $0.99 USD and available at the following online retailers: All Romance Ebooks/OmniLit, Barnes & Noble, Rainbow Ebooks, Siren-Bookstrand, Smashwords, ScrollMotion Mobile Applications, Diesel Ebooks, Kobobooks, Sony Ereader Store, Apple iBookstore*, and the Amazon Kindle Store.*

*Some titles in this series may be too naughty for these particular vendors to accept for publication, but All Romance/OmniLit carries both EPUB (Apple) and MOBI (Kindle) formats compatible with those respective devices.

Every Monday evening, a new issue of “Junkyard: Gay Bordello Stories” will be released, instantly recognizable by the series-standard cover, with the number of the book and subject clearly marked. The stories will also be clearly marked as gay erotica and not romance. Content warning will be apparent in each issue’s title. Each story will be presented in third-person point of view, from either the client’s or the prostitute’s perspective.

The initial schedule of weekly titles is as follows:

August 22, 2011 – #1 – “Beads“

August 29, 2011 – #2 – “Twins”

September 5, 2011 – #3 – “Sounding“

September 12, 2011 – #4 – “Dogging“

Look for announcements of future titles as the works are completed and scheduled. Please note that these short stories may be read in any order; there is no overreaching story arc, giving you the freedom to indulge in the topics that interest you and bypass the ones that don’t.

Join Mistress Mercedes—who has a secret hiding under her designer skirts—as she ties the series together with a brief introduction to each story (à la the narrator in Red Shoe Diaries).

Junkyard #1: Beads

Grant works as a headwaiter at Snake Eyes, an upscale restaurant at the swankiest new resort-and-casino complex in Reno, Nevada. He makes a great living, leads a comfortable life, and has a terrific bunch of friends, all of whom also work in the hospitality industry. The only damper on his existence in “The Biggest Little City in the World” is Grant’s continued barricading of himself inside the closet. Only his roommate Kaitlyn is aware that Grant is gay, and he takes great pains to keep it that way.

One Friday night, Grant and Kaitlyn again play host to the weekly poker night held at their shared apartment. Grant, drunk enough to lack good judgment, accepts a winner-take-all bet from friends Shaun and Mason—but not for money. One hand of five-card stud, no wild cards, and the loser has to visit one of Storey County’s legal brothels within thirty days. Conditions of the bet include Grant’s carnal knowledge of a prostitute with the use of a specific toy and irrefutable proof that the encounter happened.

The foursome antes up $500 each and the game begins. Too much liquor and fear of losing the bet cause Grant to do exactly that, and he faces a significant dilemma. How is he supposed to obtain the evidence he needs to fulfill his end of the wager, when he doesn’t sleep with women, ever? With days of the bet’s term running out, a chance meeting with a member of an invitation-only club might be the jackpot needed to change Grant’s luck, and perhaps even his life.

Throw down your money, spin the wheel and toss the dice—anything can happen at Mistress Mercedes’ Junkyard!

So here’s the deal.

Since we received the last of our epublishing rights back for the StarCrossed series of stories a few months ago, I’ve been working furiously to clean them up. The installments we had already self-published were given a light-to-moderate dusting, whereas the other two books were given a thorough scrubbing, enough that I’d call them rewrites and not mere re-edits. While the stories have not fundamentally changed, they should now be one hell of a lot more pleasant to read.

Here’s a brief rundown of how I tidied each book:

1. StarCrossed 1: Demon Tailz (Short Story, 10,362 words)
I learned a great deal during the year that this short story was other-published (October 2008 – October 2009). I’ve learned a truckload more after we self-published the title upon reacquisition of rights in November 2009. I gave this short story a moderate dusting this time around, mostly to correct some passivity in the prose, to cut down even further on some needless use of epithets in favor of clearer sentence structure, and to eliminate body parts that magically moved on their own.

2. StarCrossed 2: Opposite Ends of the Spectrum (Novella, 21,954 words)
Massive rewrite, the literary equivalent of a Silkwood scrub-down for this book. As I mentioned for the series overall, the story hasn’t fundamentally changed, and there were no deleted or additional scenes. However, I don’t think I left a single sentence untouched, and the now the ebook is formatted like an ebook.

3. StarCrossed 2 1/2: Sangria and Seraphim (Short Story, 5,177 words)
This title needed only a light dusting, some tightening up of point-of-view, and a few tiny tweaks here and there. While admittedly written as porn without plot, we did manage to squeeze some character development in there, and a new character introduced in the story, an angel named Ariel, plays an important role in the forthcoming StarCrossed 5: Panacea.

4. StarCrossed 3: Objects in the Mirror (Novel, 61,316 words)
As with StarCrossed 2, this novel underwent a massive, line-by-line rewrite. No deleted scenes, but I added several scenes by incorporating the short story previously called StarCrossed 3 1/2: Angel Tears. Initially, we thought those chapters slowed down the pace too much, but we received so much email to the contrary that we decided to combine the texts. The reader gleans some important information about the angel Sariel in those chapters, so I’m glad we decided to re-incorporate them into the novel. So, no more StarCrossed 3 1/2, but StarCrossed 3 is now a fatter novel (and lower priced than when it was other-published) as a result.

5. StarCrossed 4: In the Blink of an Eye (Novel, 69,017 words)
An extremely light dusting on this one, nothing major. I performed maybe twenty keystrokes.

“But I already bought these books and I want the new, shiny versions!”

That’s awesome! Provide me with some form of proof-of-purchase, and I’ll be happy to send you a new copy.

What’s next in the StarCrossed universe?

The next installment, due in April/May 2012, will be novel-length StarCrossed 5: Panacea. The first draft stands at 38,000 words currently, which is roughly the halfway point. We wrote this almost two years ago, so I’ll be doing a thorough revision and edit before we pick up where we left off.

Where can I find the books?

The books finally look like a series instead of a hodgepodge of similarly titled but disconnected stories, with shiny new covers created by my partner in words and life, Reno MacLeod.

These aren’t romance books, never have been. As such, they are no longer available on All Romance Ebooks, but they are on sale at ARe’s general fiction site, OmniLit.com under the “Fiction,” “Fantasy,” and “Horror” categories. The books will not be listed on any romance-only retail sites, and on other sites the categories selected will be similar to those on OmniLit.

As with D.N.A.: Double Helix, the StarCrossed series of short stories, novellas, and novels will not be available on Amazon. Kindle-compatible formats are on sale at OmniLit.com.

The StarCrossed stories are also on sale at Smashwords.com and will be available at Barnes & Noble, Kobobooks, and numerous other third-party retail sites in the coming weeks. However, in order to assure that you are purchasing the newly revised Second Editions just released today, only Smashwords and OmniLit will have those versions until I announce otherwise. If the book doesn’t say “Second Edition” with a 2011 copyright date on the first page, it’s not the new revision.

Click on the book covers below for more information on each, including where they’re available for purchase.

Wow, I’ve been a blogging fool lately! Who knew?

Lots of good stuff happened this past weekend, and I was sorry to see the holiday end.

1. We had Reno’s folks over for the day on Saturday, July 2. I made Beer-Battered Cod (with made-from-scratch batter, not the lazy, cheater packaged stuff) and the most incredible homemade New England Clam Chowdah Chowder in the history of the civilized world. Steamed corn-on-the-cob and a garden salad completed the meal, with (not homemade because I hate baking) Boston Cream Pie (giggling on account of I’m twelve) for dessert.

Oh, and two gallons of sangria with a ton of fresh fruit added (orange slices, whole berries, bite-sized chunks of pear and apple), which we managed to decimate in one day, and all without producing a hangover on the next. Helpful Hint: Drink a tall glass of water between each alcoholic drink, and another glass of water before going to bed to eliminate or at least minimize day-after hangover symptoms, which are mostly a result of dehydration. Take it from an expert.

While the clams were steaming for the chowder, I checked my email and found I had a flattering request from Wave at Reviews by Jessewave for me to become a member of her “author contributor” team. I’ll be doing a regular blog post every 2 – 3 months on some random topic pertaining to M/M romance, gay fiction, or gayness in general, more often than not keeping to the lighter side of things, but don’t hold me to that—I can be serious sometimes, honest! I hope Wave’s readers will give me some ideas on what they’d like to see me address. Here’s a link to Wave’s welcome-aboard post, new on her blog today. http://www.reviewsbyjessewave.com/2011/07/06/announcement-jaye-valentine-3/

On Saturday evening, we were treated to a wonderful fireworks display on our community’s private, lakeside beach (which is practically on our front doorstep). We initially thought this was our community’s official celebration bumped up a day early due to a forecast of bad weather for Sunday night, but it wasn’t. As we found out on Sunday night (the weather report was wrong, as usual around here—how do those guys keep their jobs?), the previous night’s fireworks were attributed to “Oh, that was just Fred.” Well, Fred did a damn good job, and I’m so happy that Reno’s parents were able to experience first-hand the total awesomeness that is our new neighborhood. I think seeing what an amazing place this is to live helped make up for the fact that Reno’s a little farther away from them now than they would prefer. “Deliriously happy kid” balances out that hour-and-a-quarter drive.

2. Sunday was another awesome day, though far less busy. I didn’t have to cook due the presence of massive quantities of leftovers from the day before (I tend to cook for a small army when company is coming). We ventured up to the main road mid-morning to replenish our depleted sangria supply, and we were feeling no pain by the time a neighbor knocked on our front door around 9:00 p.m. to inform us the official fireworks were about to begin. So, we staggered skipped down to the beach and holy mackerel, the fireworks were fantastic, exploding directly over our heads and reflecting on the lake. I had one of my frequent “moving here was the best thing we ever did” moments, and became a little teary-eyed. I blame the sangria.

3. The 4th of July turned out to be a relatively quiet day, although I did manage to finish a blog post I’d been working on, struggling over, and having internal angst-fests about for two weeks. If you want to hear about the historical novel Reno and I have been writing, and read a long excerpt (7,900 words) from the story, you can do so here. ===> http://www.macleodvalentine.com/3/post/2011/07/background-and-excerpt-of-our-forthcoming-historical-novel.html

4. Reno took Tuesday off from the day gig, and we managed to get some writing done. Unfortunately, I woke up in the morning with a painful stiff neck/shoulder, so I wasn’t able to sit at the computer very long, and my focus was more on how bad my damn neck hurt and not on the writing. I blame the lack of sangria. Still, despite a very busy weekend, we managed to add another 2,000 words to the book, which makes me happy.

5. Now that I’ve caught up on some other things and with the big holiday weekend past, I’m getting back to work today on revising and re-editing StarCrossed 3: Objects in the Mirror. I’ve already completed the revision/re-edit on StarCrossed 2: Opposite Ends of the Spectrum. Boy, did they need it, and that’s all I’m going say on that topic. Once I’m finished with StarCrossed 3 (which will be in the next few days), I’ll be putting them both up for sale at all the usual places. I’m excited for our StarCrossed series to be available for the first time in all same places now that we are in control of distribution, rather than a title here, a title there.

The only online store that won’t have any of the StarCrossed books is the Amazon Kindle store, due to the twincest element. Bad, Jace and Konnor, bad! The Kindle formats of the StarCrossed books will be available at AllRomanceEbooks.com for the enjoyment of all you darling perverts.

More news later. Have a nice Hump Day, everyone.

–Jaye

I had planned on cross-posting the blog entry I co-wrote with Jessewave on the topic of cross-dressing, which was posted on her blog this past Friday, June 24. However, both WordPress and Blogger are being a royal pain in the ass regarding the images, and since I really don’t have time to screw around with this for any length of time, I’m simply going to cheat.
